Lockdown Effect..

Lockdown has taken toll on everyone of us. This was something that we had never witnessed. Though now it's been more than a month and we all have got used to this life almost, but the initial days were really hectic. We used to get drained both physically and mentally.      Children are no different to this situation. To keep my daughter entertained was the biggest challenge. My brain needed to work faster than hers. So I decided I will give her an activity to do everyday which will keep her busy and some relaxation for me. I later started to pen down a blog too for these activities since I knew many parents would be in the same state as mine. Considering all nuclear families now where the dad needs to work so mummy becomes the sole entertainer..      One such day when I had given her a drawing activity. I started telling her the things that should come in the picture and she needs to inculcate all that into a beautiful artwork. ...

An event to remember

There are so many firsts in every child's life and for a mother giving the required support to the baby to make the first a special one is very necessary.. Discovering their interests and giving wings to them is what actually expected from a mother, and there is no doubt that a mother does it with her full heart. School too plays a vital role in letting the parents know what their child is good in.           My kids passion is dance.. she can go on and on . Her school has been taking caring of it too with utmost interest in her activities. I would rather say they are a blessing to me and my baby. The love and interest that the teachers show is truly commendable. This was once again proved when they conducted their school day..           We had an entire month of practice at home too after the practice sessions at school. My daughter would wait for her dad to come home so that she could dance with him, as...

Divine Experiences Continued..

As I mentioned in my previous post, my baby's Aksharabhyasa was done in Udupi by Shri Visweshwara Theertha Swamiji..Later we continued to visit Udupi atleast once a year.. It gives a sense of satisfaction when you look at the Krishna Idol there.. Similarly Vidyapeetha in Bangalore is one such holy place. Often we go there and spend some quality time.         My daughter is a shy girl. She doesn't open up very soon. May be those are the traits that she has got from her parents, but once she is aquainted there is nothing that can stop her. She proudly and confidently does her work.         We once visited Vidyapeetha after the demise of Shri Visweshwara Theertha Swamiji. There was sense of emptiness and a void that filled out hearts when we saw the final resting place of Gurugalu... Tears flowed from my eyes and a weird feeling that we had lost someone very close to us engulfed me. I also asked my baby to pray there....

Divine Experiences

My blog would be incomplete if I do not mention about my daughter's "Aksharabhyasa" i.e the pooja that is done before the kid starts going to a school. This is always performed by the father of the kid. He holds the hand of the baby and makes the child write the first letter. But I had wished something else for my daughter. I always wanted her Aksharabhyasa to be performed by a Yati or a Guru. I had dreamt of this when she was very young, but didn't knew how to go about with the idea.       Once when my daughter was 2.5 years old, we had a visit to Udupi. Pejavara paryaya was taking place at that time. My parents requested if we could get the Aksharabhyasa done by Shri Vishveshatheertha Swamiji fondly known as Pejavarashri... To our good luck they agreed. We went to the place where Swamiji was resting after his busy schedule during the Paryaya. The person next to gurugalu asked him to perform Aksharabhyasa to my daughter.     ...

Innocent questions that need an answer

Usually when I am taking tutions, my daughter sits with me... She loves me taking classes as she gets to enjoy with all the other kids..  Tutions has become part of our lives.. I love teaching and my daughter loves to read with all the other children. She also listens to carefully when I am teaching the other kids and sometimes reacts to it with her own understanding.      One such incident happened when one day I was taking a class on English Grammar and was teaching phrasal verbs in particular to my kids. I gave an example to them as "put in". I said "put in" means to spend some amount of time or effort in doing something. Example " I have put in lot of effort in learning to ride a bicycle". All the kids listened carefully. Then I asked them if they had any doubt.. Everybody said no and that they had understood... but there was one small voice which came inbetween who had a query.      My kiddo had a question. I was very su...

Small activities create Great Moments

It was a regular day for me..I sent my baby to school and as usual finished my daily chores.. i had to complete a blog post on my laptop so was little fast than usual.. By the time I was done with it was already 12.. I had to pick her up.    My baby seemed a little more happy than usual.. When we returned, she told me that she is grown up now. "Why..what happened? " was my instant reaction.. She said I would be going to a Vegetable market and shop all by myself. You need to give me Rs.20 for it. Now i had a smile on my face.. but I was more interested to know the details.. Then I checked the diary and I got all the details.. The school would set up a Vegetable Market in their Garden Area and we had to send an eco friendly bag with the kids for their shopping along with Rs.20.     This sounded so nice to me, because it had brought in a sense of responsibility in my kid. The event was day after. So the two days went by thinking what all vegetables she w...

Stories come with a Brainstorming Session

Our days won't end without telling a series of stories both from the Puranas and also the ones with a moral in them. Though I make up many stories with all the possible twists and turns, my baby enjoys the stories from the Puranas told by her dad more than the stories of present context.          I love to hear their conversation. My husband keeps trying to answer and calm down her super exited brain , but sometimes we both fail to answer them.        One such instance is when one night he was saying the story of VARAHA avatara of Lord Vishnu. He said that Lord Vishnu became Varaha to save the earth "Bhoodevi" from Hiranyaksha. The demon Hiranakshya had hid her under the ocean. Varaha lifted the earth in between his tusks and rose from the ocean thus saving earth.                     My daughter listened to the entire story carefully without dis...
